Developing technology to create light, strong, inexpensive compound curves.
Composites are used in many industries where fluids are involved: aerospace, marine, automotive, civil. Fluids move in 3D. The shapes of products used in these fluid-based industries reflect this 3D flow - curves that curve simultaneously in the X,Y, and Z dimensions. Yet most materials, composites included, are available only as flat sheet, without any curve at all. Flat sheets create parts that are heavier, weaker, and more difficult to manufacture. Up to 30% of the flat sheets are simply cut away and discarded - never even being used or recycled. Every cut breaks the strength of the cloth, and overlaps greatly increase weight due to much higher epoxy requirement. dXdYdZ aims to make composite materials directly to the forms that are needed - greater stiffness, stronger, lighter, and easier to manufacture. No cuts, no overlaps. Composites should have their greatest strength aligned with the stress on the parts - we aim to make this possible.
